How did you hear about FireEye? Why did you choose FireEye?
I heard about FireEye when I was researching cybersecurity companies within Cork, a year prior to my placement. I am quite fortunate to live in an area where security has such an influence and affords a multitude of career opportunities.
What is the most interesting thing you have learned?
Throughout my placement I have learned a multitude of skills along with seeing how the industry operates, first hand. The fast paced, ever changing landscape of the security industry was eye-opening and equally refreshing. Having worked in a number of roles prior to this, it was very interesting so see how an industry leader operates.
What has been your favorite part of your internship so far?
Wholeheartedly, the people have been the most exceptional factor in regards to this placement. From day one, the staff at FireEye managed to make us all feel welcome, but most importantly – we were made to feel like valued members of the support team. This ranged from assistance with support cases, to tremendous team building exercises. There was no differentiation between full-time employees and the interns.
What would your advice be to a student pursuing an internship at FireEye?
My advice to any student in pursuit of a placement with FireEye, is to be open-minded and a team-player. The team here is outstanding and will provide you with assistance and mentoring without delay. The working day is by no means laborious and is always rewarding, yet pleasantly challenging. Having an interest in security is also advisable.
Is there anything else you would like to say?
Undertaking a placement of this length (9 months) was great for my own personal growth. At the beginning, the idea of working for such a large organisation, in such a responsible role was slightly daunting, but I am now more comfortable in this environment. I am also grateful to be able to work in such a positive environment with motivating and inspirational co-workers. I am very appreciative to everyone at FireEye for affording me this opportunity.
