Learning More Out of My Comfort Zone

- Ahdi, 2018 IGNITE Marketing Project Management Intern

How did you hear about FireEye? Why did you choose FireEye?

I heard about FireEye, through the MISA (Management Information Systems Association) club at San Jose State, through an informational session. It was the first time I heard about FireEye as well as understanding what they stood for as a company. I chose FireEye, due to the values they stand for as a company along with the actual work environment, as there was something special when I entered the building for the first time. When I heard the CISO, Steve Booth speak with a level of conviction I have never heard of when talking about the various challenges that he faces and solves on a daily basis, I knew that this was the place for me.

What is the most interesting thing you have learned?

The most interesting thing I learned at my time at FireEye was to truly push myself outside of my comfort zone. It’s really important to push yourself and be okay with doing things that are not familiar.  Being in Product Marketing, it was the first time really working on content creation for me, so that was really interesting for me to be a part of. Whether it was formatting a new type of report or creating a survey, I found value in understanding the general process and steps of what it takes to produce effective content.

What has been your favorite part of your internship so far?

My favorite part of my internship was the networking portion of it. Having a chance to network 1-on-1 with the CMO, Vasu Jakkal, or the Keynote Session we had with Kevin Mandia, CEO, had to be the most interesting. I also got a chance to network with numerous individuals from different parts of the company, which I found invaluable to help me gain a better understanding of the business. The IGNITE Intern Showcase was definitely another highlight, as it gave me a chance to display all of the work I had done over the summer to the company.

What would your advice be to a student pursuing an internship at FireEye?

The best advice I would give to anyone trying to pursue an internship at FireEye is to do your research and ask the right clarifying questions. It is also important to be yourself and make sure you have a fundamental understanding of what the company does, as well as what the basic responsibilities of the role you are applying for are.

Is there anything else you would like to say?

I just wanted to say that it was truly a pleasure to have the chance to intern at FireEye this summer. With the projects and mentorship, along with various connections I made along the way, I really felt that I maximized my time. The IGNITE Intern program is the perfect balance of work-hard and play-hard. FireEye is truly a great company and I can’t wait to see where it is headed in the next couple of years.
